Informal Education provides an opportunity to inspire, explore, and learn in a setting outside of the traditional classroom. It provides a unique experience allowing guests to investigate something new or learn more about a topic or theme that interests them. The process enables the participants to delve into their own learning without concern for grades but out of their own curiosity.
Museum educators are always looking for ways to help audiences recognize how they can make the most of an informal learning experience. Our exhibits are designed to engage you and make topics more relevant to our daily lives. The Carpenter Science Theatre Company helps create a human perspective of the scientific discoveries that have influenced our lives. Our live science programming is designed to have that ‘wow’ moment that will inspire you to want to learn more.
The Museum’s outreach programming is aimed towards reaching audiences that would not otherwise access the Museum’s facility. We have worked with regional out-of-school programs to offer STEM programs at places like Boys & Girls Clubs or afterschool at local school districts. Museum educators have also worked with libraries and library staff so they can offer STEM programming in their communities. Museum programming is always looking for ways to reach families and help motivate their recognition of STEM in their everyday lives - through afterschool programs, Farmer’s Market events, Saturday Family events or STEM Backpacks that help you explore a State Park. Look for our programming in your neighborhood!
